Kerala flood updates: Kochi airport shut for four days; red alert in 12 districts

The operations at the Kerala International Airport have been stopped because of the torrential rains in Kerala. The operations have been stopped for four days and a red alert has been issued in 12 out of 14 district following the floods.

This is the first time Kerala airport has been closed for four days. The arrival operations were suspended on August 9th for 2 hours. All Air India express flights from Cochin will operate from Thiruvananthapuram, a spokesman of the national carrier said.

Several airlines including Vistara, Jet Airways, Indigo, Spicejet tweeted about the cancellation of flights:

Train services was disrupted  between Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari after main bridges were swept away in the gushing waters. Kerala sought relief from Indian Army as the death toll rose to 40.
