India to develop 17 coastal destinations for tourism soon

The government of India is creative seventeen new spots across the country in order to use the coastline of India as well as promote the country as one of the top beach destinations in the world.

The coastline occupies an area of 7517 kilometres which until now had been left redundant. However, since 2017, a footfall of approximately 10.4 million tourists has been seen along the Indian coastline. Thailand, on the other hand, attracts around 35 million tourists on the 3129 kilometres vast coastline.

With the increase in tourism, India is now all set to develop beach spots. The idea of creating these beaches has been under question since quite for the past four years when the government undertook the project of creating seventeen coasts across the country.

The amount of the project is INR 2,000 crore that has been sanctioned for the coastal and beach tourism for the Tourism Ministry’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

Among the seventeen spots, till now only the development of the Kakinada beachfront has been completed. Apart from the sea, the Kakinada beach features a musical fountain, a pedestrian bridge made of glass, modern landscaping, a food court, and an art gallery.

According to various reports, a majority of tourists from Europe and Russia, especially, choose beach destinations for their vacations such as Goa. They take chartered planes, stay in hotels that are in proximity to the beaches and spend a couple of weeks or more at the destinations.
