Date:

We often read about a marriages being called off for strange and weird reasons but this one is definitely the most bizarre of them all. In a recent incident, a family in UP called off the marriage on the wedding day, alleging that the bride spends excessive time on WhatsApp.

The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district, reported Hindustan Times.

The bride and her kin were waiting for the bridegroom but they were told that the marriage has been called off due to bride’s habit of ‘excessive use of WhatsApp’, the report said.

However, the family denied the allegations, citing the dowry demands by the bridegroom’s side is the actual reason. Bride’s father has also launched a police complaint against the groom and his family for demanding Rs 65 lakh in dowry.

‘Our relatives and friends had gathered to welcome the bridegroom’s family and members of the marriage party. When they didn’t turn up, I telephoned the bridegroom’s father only to be told that they were calling off the marriage,’ Uroj Mehandi, bride’s father told police
