Here’s all you need to know about Autumn Equinox this weekend

Date:

It is time to bid goodbye to the sweat stains on clothes and welcome the pumpkin spice. The long months of summer are finally coming to an end for this year this Saturday. The same day would mark the beginning of fall.

Autumn arrives this Saturday, September 22 from 9.54 pm in the Northern Hemisphere. At a particular time in September, between the dates September 21 to 23, the sun directly appears above the equator and marks the exact time of the autumn equinox.

Just below the equator is the Southern Hemisphere which is also known as the spring equinox. This marks the beginning of the spring season.

What is Autumn Equinox?

Autumn Equinox is also known as the fall equinox that occurs when the sun crosses the equator. During this, the Northern, as well as Southern Hemispheres, receive the same amount of sunshine and the day and night are of almost equal length. From this day, the Northern Hemisphere will see shorter days and longer nights, while the Southern Hemisphere will see the reverse.

The word equinox comes from a Latin word “aequalis” and “nox” that means equal night.
