K Chandrashekhar Rao’s saree distribution plan falls flat

The K Chandrashekhar Rao’s government in Telangana has planned to distribute 95 lakh sarees of 80 different varieties that almost cost Rs 280 crore for the Bathukamma festival. But the Election Commission has not accepted this proposal and said that this is the violation of code of conduct.

Telangana IT minister K T Rama Rao recently made the announcement of distributing sarees. In a letter to the chief electoral officer of Telangana, the Election Commission said that the distribution of sarees is not permitted during Bathukamma, the state festival of Telangana.

Recently, the EC had said that states where assemblies are dissolved prematurely, the model code would come into force immediately. The Telengana assembly was dissolved last month though its term was to end in June next year.
