Homemade recipes and foods that help keep dengue away

Date:

Dengue has hit most places in India yet again. Kids and adults alike are suffering from this deadly infection. Hospitals are full of such cases coming to the forefront.
Dengue is a painful process and causes symptoms like high fever, pain in the eyes, fatigue, vomiting, mild bleeding of gums or nose and headaches.

People with a weak immune system are more likely to get affected by the mosquito bite. Certain precautions need to be taken like the following –
• Ensure mosquito breeding doesn’t happen
• Fumigate open areas around you
• Apply repellent creams.
• Wear clothing that covers open body parts

But apart from this, there are also certain foods that boost the immunity system within our body. Not only do they help before contracting dengue but are also helpful to fight the infection, even after testing positive for it.

Following are a few foods which you can include in your diet:

Drink water:

Drinking water is the simplest way to stay fit and healthy. It helps in restoring urine volume and helps wash off any infections present in the body.

Homemade recipes
Nothing like tried and tested remedies at home, which have been handed over across generations. Turmeric with milk and jaggery help prevent protein loss and reduce inflammation.

Rice soup
This is also known as rice kanj. Add asafetida (hing), black salt and ghee to it. It helps prevent dehydration and loss of electrolytes.

Papaya leaves
Doctors and experts claim that papaya leaves are the best food for dengue patients. Crush the papaya leaves and extract the juice. Two tablespoons of this juice must be had once a day during dengue. This is possibly the best home remedy for the treatment of this fever.

Orange
This fruit is packed with energy and vitamins. Tit helps in digestion, which helps to increase the urinary output and consequently promotes antibodies.

Lemon Juice
This helps to remove toxins from the body. Apart from digestion, it also improves the taste of the mouth, especially when the person has contracted the infection.

Coconut Water
The most easily available drink in most parts of the country. Coconut water replenishes electrolytes, minerals and other trace minerals lost by the body due to dehydration.

Herbal Tea & fresh juices
Herbal teas are mostly made from ginger or cardamom, that help a great deal. The juices of carrots, cucumber and other green leafy vegetables provide all the basics of human nutrition. Vitamin C is the single most important nutrient for the immune system and essential for the formation of adrenal hormones. Fruits like strawberries, guava, kiwi and papaya help in the production of lymphocytes. It also has a direct effect on bacteria and viruses.

Protein Rich Foods
Milk, eggs, dairy products, fish, chicken are also foods that prevent infections and boost immunity.

There is no specific treatment or vaccine for dengue as of now. It is curable indeed, but the process is gradual and makes a person weak. An appropriate diet not only helps keep this at bay but also leads the way towards quick recovery, if already contracted.
