This image of overcrowded train is from 2010, not of migrants fleeing Gujarat in 2018

A photo recently went viral on Facebook and Twitter. This picture of an overcrowded train was posted online by many pictures with several different captions.

The picture was also shared by two official Congress accounts.

The official twitter account of Chandigarh Youth Congress posted this picture on October 10th with the caption, “गंगा के लाल ने, अपना फर्ज निभा दिया, यूपी बिहार के बिछड़े, बच्चों को वापिस घर पंहुचा दिया। जिन्होंने 1947 का विभाजन नहीं देखा ,उनको 2018 का विभाजन दिखा दिया।”


The official twitter account of the Himachal Pradesh Congress also posted the picture saying the image is of people of UP and Madhya Pradesh running away from Gujarat. The caption read, “गुजरात से यूपी बिहार और मध्य प्रदेश के मजदूरों का भगाया जाना बहुत ही शर्मनाक है। हम अपने देश में विदेशी बनते जा रहे हैं। मोदी सरकार की सोच गुलामी की तरफ जाने का संकेत दे रही है।” ( It’s shameful that people from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are being forced to leave Gujarat like this. We are slowly becoming foreigners in our own country. )

While others shared that picture comparing it to a picture of India-Pakistan partition. The caption that read, ” मोदी का न्यू इंडिया गुजरात से भागते बिहार और यूपी के लोग.. भारत पाकिस्तान विभाजन 1947 से भी भयावह स्थिति.” (People of Bihar and UP running away from Gujarat in Modi government…the situation is worse than that of India-Pakistan partition in 1947).

Fact Check

When you reverse search the image on Google, see that the image was used by BCC in 2012.

It is a Reuters picture clicked back in 2010.
