Brazilian GP: Lewis Hamilton claims Mercedes’ 100th pole position

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton claimed his 10th pole of the season and got Mercedes their 100th pole position at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Saturday while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished second.

The new five-time world champion clocked a track record best lap in one minute and 7.281 seconds on his second run in the final session.

While Sebastian Vettel was fined for a weighbridge incident, Mercedes’ Bottas and Ferrari’s  Kimi Raikkonen finished 3rd and 4th, respectively.

Hamilton was delighted with the pole, brought up the 82nd pole of his career.

“That was a tough session,” he said. “The weather was going up and down. Ferrari are very quick this weekend, but we did a lot of work to make sure we are ready.”

Hamilton was the only one to improve on his final flying lap, after earlier securing provisional pole, with the best time of one minute 07.281 seconds – a track record and more than a second quicker than last year’s pole.
