West Bengal next for liquor ban after Bihar and Gujarat, demands BJP

Date:

After the liquor ban in Gujarat and Bihar, West Bengal seems to be the next in line to succumb the ban by the BJP leaders. The leaders demand that West Bengal should be a dry state as according to them, the money that is earned by the sale of liquor was being passed on as funds to the Trinamool Congress, currently ruling West Bengal.

Twelve people have died and around thirty five have fallen sick since Wednesday after drinking alcohol in Shantipur in the Nadia district. A majority of the victims were brickfield workers. The BJP leader Mukul Roy and national general secretary of the party, Kailash Vijayvergiya met the families of the departed on Friday followed by a visit to the district hospital to meet those who fell sick in the incident.

In West Bengal, apart from the licensed liquor shops, there are some unlicensed ones as well, that pass on the received money to the Trinamool Congress. The repeated requests of the family members of the victims to close liquor shops in the area remained unanswered and the illegal liquor trade did not stop.
