Haryana land grab case: CBI raids former Haryana CM Hooda’s residence

Date:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting a raid at the Rohtak residence of former Haryana Chief Minister BS Hooda in connection with alleged land scam case, news agency ANI reported on Friday. The agency is also conducting raids related to the same case at more than 30 places in Delhi-NCR.

The Supreme Court had on November 1, 2017, ordered a CBI probe into the acquisition process for 1,407 acre and subsequent release of 95 % land.

Congress’ Anand Sharma said “Officials must hear this. Govts do not have any permanency. There are few weeks left for the general elections to begin. It is certain this govt is rattled, Prime Minister is staring at an imminent defeat, that’s why these actions. When the new govt resumes office, all such actions which have been at the behest of the political masters of today to harass, intimidate , frame & defame, even the charges, they will be held to account & they will have to answer.”

The raids come just weeks after Hooda was granted bail by a CBI court in Panchkula in a case pertaining to alleged illegal re-allotment of land to Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), which is the publisher of National Herald, in 2005.

The agency had registered the case in September 2015 on allegations that private builders in conspiracy with unknown public servants of the Haryana government had purchased around 400 acres of land from farmers and landowners of village Manesar, Naurangpur and Gurugram at throwaway prices.

The land was allegedly purchased showing the threat of acquisition by the government, during the period August 27, 2004, to August 24, 2007.

However, former chief minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda had termed the FIR against him as ‘politically motivated’. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, DLF Gurugram, and Onkareshwar Properties, Gurugram, had been named in the FIR.

Hooda has been campaigning for Randeep Surjewala in Jind for the last few days for the crucial by-poll that will be held on January 28.
