Security tightened across the capital ahead of Republic Day celebrations

As Delhi gears up for the Republic Day celebrations, the police forces including officers, traffic personnel, and defence forces are busy preparing themselves and making full security arrangements for protection against any uncalled for incident.

Around 25,000 personnel have been deployed at various locations and all entry and exit points leading to Delhi and the major areas of Delhi, especially, after the arrest of the two suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists who had been probably plotting attacks in Delhi to hamper the Republic Day celebrations.

According to reports from a leading news agency, the areas identified as the targets by the terrorists are Lajpat Nagar Market, Haj Manzil, Paharganj, India Gate, Turkman Gate, and IGL gas pipeline in East Delhi.

Besides the 25,000 security personnel, CCTV and face-recognition cameras have been installed at Rajpath along with mobile hit teams, sharpshooters, anti-aircraft gun snipers on the Rajpath to Red Fort parade route. Apart from these locations, the snipers have also been placed above the high-rise buildings.

In terms of air defence, anti-aircraft guns have been installed to keep the airspace safe and secure. The counter-drone technology is also being used by the police to stop an attack or spot any suspicious looking flying object.

Security personnel have been deployed at all the vulnerable spots including railway stations, both domestic and international airports, crowded markets and malls, bus stands, metro stations, and bus terminals.

Additional 400 CISF personnel have been deployed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for multi-layered frisking of the passengers and their luggage. While, at the metro stations, there are two people appointed for every passenger, the travellers at the airport are being checked by removing shoes, belts, and heavy jackets.
