BJP not desperate for alliance: Devendra Fadnavis hits back on Shiv Sena’s ‘big brother’ comment

Date:

Reacting to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s “big brother” comment, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday cleared that BJP wants an alliance for development, not because it is helpless.

“BJP does want an alliance with the Shiv Sena but we are not desperate for it. We want the alliance as custodians of Hindutva and a strong force against corruption,” he said. Fadnavis’s reaction came after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said, “We are the big brother in Maharashtra, we were the big brother and will stay the big brother.”

Earlier in the day, the senior leader from Shiv Sena denied reports that the party and BJP will fight on equal seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“We have no information about it, you (media) people know more. We do not have such proposal and we are not sitting here to accept such a proposal. We reiterate Shiv Sena will play the role of a big brother,” he told news agency ANI.

“We are the big brother in Maharashtra, we were the big brother and will stay the big brother,” Raut added.

The two parties are expected to arrive at a 23-25 seat sharing formula in Maharashtra for the polls. The state has a total of 48 Lok Sabha seats.
