Apex Court summons CBI’s Nageshwar Rao for contempt of court

Date:

The Supreme Court on Thursday summoned former interim Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director M Nageshwar Rao for transferring the investigating officer in the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case.

It amounts to contempt, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said, stating that the transfer of Joint Director A K Sharma out of the CBI was in violation of the Supreme Court orders.

SC said that Rao has prima facie committed contempt of court by transferring CBI officer, who was probing Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case, without taking court’s consent.

The apex court has also asked the former interim director of CBI and other officers to be present on February 12.

“We are going to take it very very seriously. You have played with order of Supreme Court of India. God help you. Never play with the Supreme Court’s order,” ANI quoted the Chief Justice as saying.

Earlier, slamming the Bihar government, the apex court transferred the trial of Muzaffarpur shelter home case to Saket POCSO Court, Delhi from Patna. The Court has ordered the judge to commence the trial in 2 weeks and complete it within a period of 6 months.
