West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee questions timing of Pulwama attack

Date:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed doubt over the timing of the Pulwama terror attack and wondered as to how Pakistan got the encouragement to carry out such an act ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a media gathering here, she said, “The Government had inputs from intelligence agencies on Feb 8 that such attacks might happen before elections. Why no action was taken? Why 78 convoys were still allowed?…I also have intelligence reports that my phone is always taped, as you all know.”

“When elections are knocking on the door you are trying to stage a war… a shadow war. Amit Shah and Narendra Modi are delivering political speeches. Even after such a big mishap you do not resign taking responsibility and are instead delivering political speeches,” she told a press conference.

“We have got reports that some RSS pracharaks are roaming the streets at night, holding the national flag to create trouble. We do not support this kind of activities in the name of nationalism. We urge the people to not fall prey to such activities.”

More than forty CRPF jawans were killed after a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a convoy in south Kashmir last Thursday. Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the terror attack.
