Rajasthan: 13 killed, over 15 injured as truck rams into a wedding procession

A speeding truck rammed into a marriage procession in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan killing 13 people including 4 children and critically injuring over 15 others on Monday night.

The police said in a statement on Tuesday that the accident took place near Ramdev temple on State Highway-113, when the truck, going to Banswara hit the marriage party moving on the roadside.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot shared a statement on his twitter, “My heartfelt condolences to the grieved families. I pray for speedy recovery of injured people (sic).”

The injured were rushed to a government hospital in Choti Sadri and a few hours later, 15 injured people were referred to a facility in Udaipur.

According to the police, so far nine of the deceased have been identified as Daulatram (60), Bharat (30), Shubham (5), Chotu (5), Dilip (11), Arjun (15), Ishu (19), Ramesh (30) and Karan (28).

According to the DSP, the truck driver apparently could not see the procession in the night. He added that the bodies are in the process of postmortem and an investigation is underway.
