Jet Airways’ pilots write to Govt over pending salaries

Date:

Seeking help from the government for the first time, Jet Airways’ pilots union has asked them to help with the pending salaries and dues from the airline.

National Aviators Guild (NAG), which represents Jet Airways’ pilots has written to Union labour minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar for intervention over the issue of pending salaries and dues from the airline.

The cash-strapped full-service airline has been making delayed salary payment for the last few months and has also defaulted on loan repayments.

In the letter, dated March 6, read, “This situation is leading to extreme tension and frustration amongst our members, hardly an ideal situation for pilots in the cockpit… All pleas to the management in this regard have fallen on deaf ears.”

In a statement, issued by Jet Airways on Friday, they said that they have not received any such communication. They also said that the airline remains committed to meet its salary obligations towards its employees and clearing all pending dues.

“The company remains committed to meet its salary obligations towards its employees and clearing all pending dues,” PTI quotes the spokesperson as saying.

However, on March 8, Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal wrote to Etihad Airways Group CEO Tony Douglas seeking urgent funding of Rs 750 crore.
