Ahead of the general elections, political warfare in India has taken a different route. The much publicised ‘Chowkidar’ jibe between PM Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, has reached another level. BJP has used it as a social media tool and is now going to conduct an interaction between PM Modi and people who be a part of this movement.
In a recent press conference, Union Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ” ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar hun’ movement has become a big mass movement. When it went on social media, it became a global trend for the entire day. 20 lakh people tweeted about it.”
Prime Minister Modi will interact with those who have pledged to be part of the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign on March 31 via video conference, simultaneously covering 500 places across India.

“Jubilant over the success of the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar Hun’ campaign, PM Narendra Modi will interact with those pledged for it at 500 places across the country via video conference on March 31,” Prasad said.
He also added that the trending tagline has been pledged by 1 crore people on social media and NaMo app.
Ravi Shankar Prasad also targeted opposition and people who had criticised the campaign. He said, “Those who are out on bail with their families and are facing various legal actions are troubled with the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ Movement. Some people are saying ‘Chowkidar’ is for the rich. These are the same people who looted about 12 lakh crores of poor people. And now they are commenting on this campaign.”
The trend gained momentum on March 17, Sunday, when along with PM Modi several other BJP leaders added the prefix, ‘Chowkidar’ to their twitter handles.
The prime minister while launching the campaign on March 16 said, “Your chowkidar is standing firm and serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar.”
