18 month old rescued from a 60 feet deep borewell after over 45 hours

Date:

A massive rescue operation which has been underway since Wednesday, when an 18-month-old fell into a 60 feet borewell has now ended with the child being rescued.

The child has been saved from further agony and was rescued on Friday after over a period of 45 hours.

Earlier, the authorities had started digging a parallel well about 20 feet away from the borewell and subsequently create a tunnel to bring out the child safely. The child was being monitored by a night vision camera. The child was earlier being rescued by the help of a net but the plan did not work.

The child, Nadim was playing with some friends when he suddenly fell into the borewell. The family members and the villagers immediately informed the police.

Earthmovers, drilling machines, and other equipment have been pressed into service to rescue the child, even as oxygen tubes were dropped to help him breathe. Biscuits and juices are being supplied to the child. A medical team has also reached the spot.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Meena had earlier told that strict legal action will be taken against the person who dug the borewell without taking any permission from the department concerned.

The accident has again brought to the fore the dangers posed by uncovered borewells, which have turned into death traps for children. Back in 2006, a massive operation was launched to rescue five-year-old Prince, who had fallen into a borewell. The incident was extensively covered by media. He was pulled out safely nearly 48 hours later.
