A new trend ‘Mewing’ claims to reshape your face without surgery

Date:

The internet gets crazy with new trends and tricks. One of the latest internet trends is Mewing. It’s a practice which might improve your look – jawline and shape of the face without surgery.

The practice of mewing involves keeping the tongue consistently on the roof of the mouth. Apparently, this practice changes the jawline and shape as well as strengthens the jaw muscles.

It’s ‘the new health craze taking over Instagram and YouTube’, according to one UK news site. Joseph Saavedra, a 21-year-old YouTube vlogger, said the tongue placement is crucial. “A few [commenters] have said that they have been doing this all their life and they all have really nice facial structures.”

The trend is named after British Orthodontists, Dr. John Mew and his son, Dr. Mike Mew. They are associated with the popularity of mewing and Dr. Mike Mew has also posted a video on Youtube about ‘Mewing’.

In November 2018, he was expelled from the British Orthodontic Society because of his fervent posts and regarding encouraging the trend. He said the board claimed his “social media statements have misled or had the potential to mislead patients and the public”.

People have been giving mixed reactions to this trend and technique, while he has found some fans who have been trying the technique, there are also some skeptics.

Saavedra says mewing for looks is a misuse of the technique. “I think [looking for improvements] is the wrong mentality to look at this with because if you’re just trying to chase facial improvement by doing this, it’s going to a few years before you see some real results, especially if you’re older.”
