NCP-Congress alliance is like ‘Kumbhkaran’, says Modi in Maharashtra rally

Date:

Addressing a public rally in Wardha (Maharashtra) on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the Congress-NCP alliance, saying the NCP-Congress alliance in Maharashtra is like “Kumbhkaran”.  He added when they are in power, they take turns to sleep for six months.

Stepping up his attack, Modi said, “The mahamilavat of Congress and NCP has been insulting our brave soldiers and their sacrifices. When our brave soldiers crossed the border and killed terrorists in their own houses, they started asking for evidence.”

He also blamed Congress for the drought in Vidarbha and elaborated that the Congress-NCP alliance looted farmers in the state as they were involved in an irrigation scam.

PM Modi also asked people, “Do you want the heroes of India or the people who want to be heroes in Pakistan? Do you want proof, or do you want to take pride that your soldiers are so brave?”

He also congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for successfully launching country’s newest satellite, EMISAT.

Talking about NCP president Sharad Pawar, he said, “There was a time when Sharad Pawar ji used to think that he could become the Prime Minister.” He further said that one fine day he (Pawar) decided “I am happy to be here in the Rajya Sabha; I will not contest elections”.

Wardha, which is part of the cotton-soybean belt in Vidarbha, is a hotbed of agrarian distress. In the first phase, seven constituencies in Vidarbha, including the Wardha and Bhandara-Gondia seats, will go to polls on 11 April.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won both seats in 2014, though the Nationalist Congress Party had wrested the Bhandara-Gondia seat from the BJP in a bypoll last year.

PM Modi is also scheduled to hold rallies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana later in the day.
