Beyonce shines in the trailer of ‘Homecoming’ which traces a cultural movement

Date:

Queen Beyonce has taken centre stage again, this time also behind the camera. The trailer of her documentary ‘Homecoming’ has finally been released. This Netflix film takes us behind the scenes of Beyonce’s Coachella performance from last year and gives an insight into the cultural movement it became.

Beyonce’s performance at the music festival was an ode to America’s black colleges and universities and the documentary is based around it. In the trailer, we hear the voice of the renowned poet Maya Angelou voice in the background talking about Black expression with footage of rehearsal and behind the scenes of Beyonce and group practising and training.

“I want to be representative of my race-the human race. I have a chance to show how kind we can be, how intelligent and generous we can be. I have a chance to teach, to love and to laugh. I know that when I finish doing what I’m sent here to do I will be called home and I will go home without any fear, trepidations, wondering what’s going to happen,” Angelou can be heard saying in the trailer.

The movie will showcase candid footage and interviews detailing the preparation that went into bringing Beyonce’s vision of the performance to life.

Beyonce became the first black woman to headline the music festival in 2018 creating history. Last year, Beyonce also launched a scholarship program dubbed the Homecoming Scholars Award Program.

‘Homecoming: A Film By Beyonce’ premieres on Netflix on April 17.
