No! Pakistan flags were not raised in Kerala; here’s the fact check

Date:

A few pictures from Kerala have been doing rounds on social media with people carrying green flags with a crescent moon and a star.

The post claims that the pictures are from Wayanad, Kerala from Rahul Gandhi’s rally.

“केरल के वायनाड में कांग्रेस के साथ मसूद अजहर और हाफ़िज़ सईद की रैली भी है
पाकिस्तानी झंडे भी है
बात करते ह लोकतंत्र की सभी कांग्रेस के पाकिस्तानी है
#हर_हर_मोदी
#घर_घर_मोदी” – caption of some other post read.

FACT CHECK

When we fact-checked the pictures, we found that the flag in the pictures is not of Pakistan but is of Indian Union Muslim League.

When we put the images through Reverse search tools, we found out the first picture has been in use for years and is used more like a representative image for the IUML party.

The picture in the second post was indeed clicked during Rahul Gandhi’s rally but the claim is wrong because the flag is of Indian Union Muslim League.

The members of IUML were present in the rally because the Muslim League is one of the parties in the UDF.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) is an alliance of political parties in Kerala. The parties in the alliance post-Kerala Legislative Assembly election, 2016 are as follows:

  1. Indian National Congress  Flag of the Indian National Congress.svg
  2. Indian Union Muslim League  Flag of the Indian Union Muslim League.svg
  3. Kerala Congress (M)Kerala Congress(m) Flag.gif
  4. Kerala Congress (Jacob) Kerala-Congress-flag.svg
  5. Revolutionary Socialist Party RSP-flag.svg
  6. All India Forward Bloc

This proves that the claim is wrong and should not be shared.
