Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu steps in; calls for review of Jet Airways

As India’s premier aviation company, Jet Airways continues to struggle, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has called for a review of issues related to the airways. The issues include rising fares and continuous flight cancellations.

Prabhu has also asked Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola to take necessary steps to protect the rights and safety of passengers. Jet Airways is facing severe financial crisis and is operating less than 10 planes besides temporarily suspending its international operations.

Besides asking the secretary to take necessary steps to protect passenger rights and safety, Prabhu has also called for working with all stakeholders for their wellbeing.

In the past few months, the airways have grounded and cancelled most of its flights, some with even less than 24 hours’ notice. Airfares have risen and they are struggling to repay creditors and lessors. They have grounded most of their aircrafts too. Pilots and ground staff are overdue for payments and salaries.
The government had to finally step in.
