Gautam Gambhir has two Voter IDs, says AAP leader Atishi, files complaint

Date:

Aam Aadmi Party’s East Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Atishi has filed a complaint against BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir in a Delhi court for allegedly possessing two voter identity cards in two separate constituencies of Delhi – Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote, “I have filed a criminal complaint against the BJP candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over his possession of two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar. #GambhirApradh.”

She also requested people of East Delhi Lok Sabha to not waste their vote by voting for the BJP candidate as he is going to get disqualified sooner or later for having two voter ID cards.

Atishi has accused Gambhir of ‘deliberately’ and ‘illegally’ enrolling as voter in at least two separate constituencies, as well concealing the same fact and deliberately providing false information/statements/declaration in his nomination papers and accompanying affidavit.

The AAP candidate submitted that as per Section 17 of The Representation of the People Act, 1950, no person can be enrolled as a voter in more than one constituency and doing so is a criminal offence punishable with imprisonment up to one year or a fine, or both.

Atishi also claimed that Gambhir’s nomination would have been cancelled as it is a disqualifiable offence that will lead to his disqualification sooner or later.

Delhi will go to polls on May 12, and results will be announced on May 23.
