Cyclone Vayu: Orange alert released by IMD; trains, flights delayed

Date:

The credit for the downpour in Mumbai is attributed to the Cyclone Vayu in the Arabian Sea. The current location of the cyclone is collateral to Karwar and Goa coast.

The rains are assumed to intensify. The city of Mumbai received rain on 10th June which was accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The pelt down led to power failures, delayed trains and flights and the famous traffic jams. The airline Vistara tweeted UK 985 from Delhi to Mumbai had been diverted to Ahmedabad.

Mumbai, Palghar, and Thane are likely to see rains or thundershowers on Tuesday as well, while heavy rains at isolated places are expected in Ratnagiri according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

The cyclone is moving with great speed and is likely to hit the Gujarat coast on June 13 with a breathtaking intensity.

Recognising all these threats the state government has decided to send NDRF personnel to areas of Saurashtra and Kutch.

The IMD has released the ‘Orange’ alert which signifies heavy to very heavy rainfall. The wind speed is estimated to be 135 kmph.

The news definitely garners the attention of all the authorities and lets hope everyone is safe and adequate action is taken to prevent damage.
