‘Vayu’ to strike in the next 24 hours

More than 300 thousand people are being jostled to safety by 39 National Disaster Response Force teams, as the Tropical Cyclone Vayu hoovers over northwestern India, due to strike in the next 24 hours.  

The local authorities have been provided with an extra hand in conducting relief operations, rescue and search missions by deploying the NDRP to the region immediately after the forecast.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, Vayu is moving at a speed of a 145 kmph to 170 kmph by Thursday morning. 

CNN reports that the Tropical Cyclone Vayu will glide pass about 200 kilometers west of Mumbai before the rains are suspected  to strike the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahavu, tomorrow morning.

Several flights scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport, flight operations to Diu, Porbandar, Kandla, Mundra and Bhavnagar have been canceled until further notice.

Passengers and Mail/Express trains to Okha, Porbandar, Bhuj, Veraval,  Bhavnagar and Gandhidham has been canceled after 1800 hours today until 14th of June, Saturday. One special train has been scheduled to help evacuate people from respective areas.

Various schools and workplaces in Gujarat have announced an off for tomorrow, promoting safety for its people. The Government of Maharashtra may announce a shut off for the public several areas of  Mumbai, Thane, Palgahar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg for two days.

Home Minister Amit Shah, on tuesday chaired a special meeting of council members over the issue of cyclone ‘Vayu’, the meeting answered several questions over the safety of the areas prone to destruction by the Cyclone.
