An eight year old Dalit boy was allegedly beaten up and made to sit on hot tiles after being accused of supposed theft in a temple in Wardha, Maharashtra on Monday, June 17, 2019.
The boy’s father, on discovering the incident, immediately approached the police and registered a case against the accused, Amol Dhore, under the Prevention of Atrocities Act.
Dhore had tied the child’s hands and forced him to sit on hot tiles, after suspecting that the child had stolen coins from the local temple.

“I went to drink water. They were drunk…They tied my hands and legs and beat me up and then made me sit on the hot floor, I then somehow managed to run away,” the eight year old victim said while narrating his story.
Pankaja Munde, the Minister of Women and Child Welfare of Maharashtra said in a statement; “Such incidents bring out reality in society…We as the government have taken action but it’s also the responsibility of the society to introspect,”.
Though, the case has been filed and the accused arrested, the incident brings back our attention to the various acts of atrocities on children that still haunt our country.
