The ‘King of Pop’ rolled a boulder onto the road of music ten years ago today, due to an unfathomed and untimed death. His death sent the whole world into a grieving frenzy; people re-played on record the legend’s mind-rushing rhythms and his dancing rebuilt many.
Even today, a decade after his death the world plays his records on repeat, and his name has still not lost the charm.
Michael Jackson is one of the ‘Jackson 5’ brothers and the eighth child in the Jackson family. Michael started his solo career in 1971 and by the 1980’s he became a pop icon.
His noteworthy music videos, including songs like ‘Beat It’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Thriller’ and ‘Black or White’, were all driven towards breaking a racial barrier and created a genre for music videos that formed a space for the neglected in the society.
Dance forms, that are pivotal to modern Pop culture, like ‘Moonwalk’ and ‘Robot’, are forms coined and created by Jackson.
He has won several accolades for his work, including the Guinness world record, 15 Grammy Awards and 26 American Music Award.
In his musical career he had released 13 number-one US singles, and was the first artist to have a top ten single in the Billboard Hot 100 for five different decades.
During the mid 1980’s, when ‘Thriller’ was released and was becoming a phenomenal hit, the pop star was hit with accusations of ‘racial activities’ and experiment with his skin.
During this period, Michael’s skin turned paler than usual, and he was dermatological diagnosed with Vitiligo in 1984, which resulted in white patches all over his body.
He refused claims of excessive bleaching, ripping apart the accusations of him being fascinated with being white-skinned.
One of the most signifiucant engagements in his life was his fairytale estate , ‘Neverland Ranch’, which later became the heaven for controversy when Jackson was accussed of child sexual abuse.
Apart from this, the artist was infamous for excessive drug abuse which eventually lead to his death on June 25, 2009 due to an alleged cardiac arrest.
