Today in Parliament, the Lok Sabha passed the Jammu Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

It was passed after an intense discussion over the Jammu and Kashmir issue in the House, inviting an uproar from the opposition, when Home Minister Amit Shah traced back to history on why there is a rift between people of India and the valley.

Here are the major updates:

  1. Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved the J&K Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha, he said, “this bill is not to please anyone but for those living near the International Border.”

2. Later in the evening, the bill was passed in the lower house.

3. Shah also moved statutory resolution extending the President’s rule under Article 356 in Jammu and Kashmir for six more months, from July 3, 2019.

4. Lok Sabha gave its nod to extend the President’s rule in the valley for another six months beginning July 3, 2019.

5. While MP NK Premchandran opposed the President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir, saying issues of the state should not be taken in political interest but in interest of the struggling people in the state.

6. Amit Shah, who returned from a two-day trip to Jammu & Kashmir, said J&K assembly elections to be held by the end of this year.

7. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal told the Rajya Sabha that 24 train set has been planned for procurement from Japan for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed project.

8. Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar.

9. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan said India facing drought, neither Centre nor states have long-term solutions.

10. Opposition retaliated in Lok Sabha over the Jammu Kashmir issue while Shah attempts to speak.

The ongoing Monsoon Session, which began on June 17, will continue till July 26. The first session of Lok Sabha will provide 30 sittings spread over 40 days in Lok Sabha and 27 sittings spread over 37 days sittings in the Rajya Sabha.

The Economic Survey will be presented on July 4 followed by the Union Budget for 2019-20 on July 5.
