Delhi: School-going kids, office-goers to be affected as transport associations call for strike today

Date:

New Delhi: Thousands of school-going kids and office-goers across Delhi-NCR may face difficulty on Thursday reaching their schools and offices respectively as the United Front of Transport Associations (UFTA) will go on a strike on September 19.

The transport union will protest against the new hefty fines under the Motor Vehicles Act 2019.

The UFTA, an umbrella unit of about 41 transport associations in Delhi-NCR announced on Wednesday that privately-owned transport vehicles such as buses (except DTC), auto-rickshaws, cabs and trucks will not ply on city roads on Thursday.

The union claims that due to the economic slowdown, which has impacted the sector immensely, in addition to the new fines, operating has become difficult.

Many schools which don’t have their own school buses and hire buses from private vendors have asked parents to make arrangements.

The union has stated it will go on a one-day token strike on Thursday. The strike will include all commercial vehicles – Truck, Bus, Tempo, Taxi, Maxi-Cabs, and Auto Rickshaws.
