Date:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Kolkata today and addressed a rally. He spoke about many issues including his party’s stand on both the NRC and the related Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2016. He also left no stone unturned to attack the Trinamool government in Bengal and said his party will come to power with full majority after the state polls in 2021. He remarked that the Mamata Banerjee-led government was trying to mislead the people of the state on the critical issue of NRC.

Amit Shah also remarked that the people of Bengal have played a crucial role in the win of BJP in the general elections. From 2 seats in 2014, to 18 in 2019, has been a big jump for the party. He said this translates to almost 2.5 crore Bengalis who voted for them.
He spoke about Shyama Prasad Mookherji and said that he was the first person to wage a war against this and gave his life for the abrogation of Article 370.

He took a dig at CM Mamata Banerjee and said that she is not allowing NRC to happen in Bengal. He referred to her remark that millions of Hindus will have to leave West Bengal. According to him, ‘there is no bigger lie than this’. In his speech he said that he assures the people of Bengal from all communities that nothing of this sort is going to happen.

He also hinted at the deteriorating industrial growth in the state and said that at the time of independence, Bengal contributed 27% of the entire Indian industrial production and today it stands at 3.3%. He gave more facts such as production of medicines, that has fallen from 70% to below 6% today. The bank deposits were 22%, but today, they are a mere 6.3%.
