All you need to know about World Food Day

World Food Day is celebrated every year on October 16 in the honour of the founding date of the Food and Agriculture Organization. The organization was launched in 1945 by the United Nations. Every part of the world celebrates this day with great pomp and show and some of the organizations are also part of the celebrations such as International Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Food Program, and more.

  • World Food Day was started in 1979 by the member countries of the Food and Agriculture Organization at its 20th general conference.
  • The conference and committee were led by Dr. Pal Romany, the former Minister of Hungary for Agriculture and Food.
  • The day is celebrated in more than 150 countries all over the world and highlights the consciousness and knowledge of the issues and the reasons that lead to poverty and hunger in the world.
  • World Food Day is also called Food Engineers’ Day. In India, the day is celebrated with full enthusiasm and on this day, many real food lovers take a pledge to their food safe and hygienic.
  • Other parts of the world make use of this day to highlight the other aspects of agriculture and security of food like climate change, biodiversity, and fishing.
  • Every year, a new theme is incorporated that remains the focus of the world.
