In an unfortunate incident, a 29-year-old former AIIMS doctor, identified as Shonam Motis, was found dead due to an overdose of anaesthetics. She used to live alone in her flat in Sector 43, Gurugaon.
Her husband, Shikhar Mor, also a doctor working in AIIMS, and in-laws have been booked for abetment to suicide after her father filed a complaint against them.
Police have said it appeared to be a case of suicide. “Several tablets and injection phials were scattered near the body. It seems she took multiple doses of anaesthetic. We have sent samples to a forensic lab to ascertain the exact cause of death,” said Dr Pawan Chaudhary, who conducted the post-mortem.
The police said that her father, in a complaint, alleged that her husband forced her to consume narcotics and, her in-laws used to beat and harass her.
A resident of Kota, Rajasthan, she joined AIIMS in 2017 and got married to her colleague Shikhar in 2018. Initially, she had worked at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, but later worked at a private hospital in Gurugram, the police said.
Her father Onkar Lal Motis, has alleged that Shikhar used to consume marijuana and encouraged Shonam to do the same. He has also alleged that Shonam’s in-laws used to harass her.
On Monday evening, when she did not respond to phone calls from her parents, they got worried. Soon they got calls from the cops and the landlord about her death.
