TN tops in total installed solar capacity during Q3 2019:Report

Mercom Capital Group, a Limited Liability Group company has in a report said that, Tamil Nadu has emerged as the state with the largest installed total solar capacity in the country in the third quarter of this financial year.

The state of Karnataka and Rajasthan follow Tamil Nadu.

The total installed solar capacity of the state stands currently at 32.6 GW at the end of November 2019.

Renewable energy contributes to 50.1% of the total installed energy capacity of the state.

Solar installations in India in Q3 2019 were at a total of 2170 MW, a 44% increase as compared to the 1510MW of installed solar capacity during Q2 2019, the report observed.

India as part of its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions, agreed to after the Paris Agreement to:

1. Reduce its greenhouse gas emission intensity of its GDP by 33-35% of the 2005 level by 2030.

2. 40% of its total power capacity would be based on non-fossil fuels.

3. To create a carbon sink, in addition of 2.5-3 Billion tonnes of CO2 (Carbon Di-Oxide) through enhanced forest cover.
