Fake Alert! Digital artwork of a hurricane given a religious twist

Date:

A video of a hurricane is doing rounds on social media.

The caption of the post read:The Mighty Buddhist God Vajrapani & Indradeva wield the power of Lightning & Thunder. Many Devas in Dharmic pantheon are personifications of the forces of the Universe. In Japan we honor these deities as “Shoten Zenjin”. Man-made buildings are no match for Nature/Heaven’s Power”.

Earlier the same video went viral as ‘Hurricane Dorian from the coasts of Florida’

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the above viral video, we found that this is not video of Hurricane Dorian. This video is actually a composite of at least two different images.

The foreground of this animated image was taken from a stock photograph of Miami Beach, Florida. The cloud portion of this image appears to come from a May 2016 photograph of large supercell storm over Leoti, Kansas.

Digital artist Brent Shavnore first put these two images together for an artwork he shared to his Instagram page in April 2019.

Shavnore’s artwork was later animated by Instagram user TheGlitch.org;

Hence, the claim attached to the video is FALSE and the video is not real but is an art work.
