Feel the festive spirit at the most popular Christmas markets in India

As Christmas approaches, world over cities and towns adorn a new look. Colourful Christmas trees, lights, lamps and decorations, Christmas carols in the background and joyous feelings are the flavour of the month.

India too, gears up for the big festival in a lavish manner. Christmas markets spring up, brimming with people, closer to December 25th.


Here is a list of some of the famous Christmas markets in India.

Delhi 

The capital city of India is known for its festive spirit. Add to it the various embassies that are stationed here and you have the perfect theme for a feast. Special mention for the German Xmas market organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce in Delhi. The paraphernalia and the shopping spread, keep everyone hooked. The American and the Australian embassies also host Christmas markets every year, that are attended in huge numbers by locals and tourists alike.

Mumbai 

Check out the shops at Cuffe Parade, Crawford Market, Bandra Village and the Elphinstone College in Mumbai for their December festive markets and carnivals. The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce also organises a big event in Mumbai.

Goa

If Christmas is here, can Goa be far behind. Not at all! One of India’s most sought-after tourist spot, dons a brand-new look in December. It is bustling with activity. Anjuna, Calangute, Baga beach are some of the popular hangout places. Other famous addresses are Arpora Night Bazaar and Margao, which sell Christmas decorations along with silk gowns, jewellery, handicrafts and much more to complete the Christmas spirit.
The Goa winter carnival is another attraction.

Puducherry and Shillong 

Similarly, Puducherry and Shillong are other must go places too.
In Shillong, head to Police Bazaar, Barra Bazaar and GS Road for crafts and traditional food galore.

Cochin Carnival 

Head to Cochin for this amazing Carnival experience. With loads of music, merriment, food, dance and shopping -it is the one place stop for everything.
Head to the Broadway Market, Jew Street, Bazaar Road and Convent Street.

Bangalore

Some of the new age Christmas markets come up in the Tech City. The Sunday Soul Sante and Alliance Française de Bangalore are known names where a number of stalls sell Christmas goodies.

The city has numerous spots with music and dance, bright lights, lamps and stuffed cut outs of reindeers on display. Truly, a Christmas look!

Kolkata 

The Bengali spirit cannot be sidelined. The famous New Market is filled with different kinds of decorations and sweets and savouries for one to indulge in.

Stop at the oldest Jewish bakery in town for its famous fruit cake, the Nahoum and Sons.
The Park Street road takes up a whole new meaning when it comes to Christmas decorations.
