Bengal school teacher, sister beaten; allege TMC leader’s involvement

In a shocking incident, two sisters were allegedly tied and beaten up by a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in the Dakshin Dinajpur district in West Bengal. As per reports, the women were protesting against the construction of a village road on their private land.

One of the victims is a primary school teacher and has lodged a complaint. She has named the TMC leader and four others and has alleged that she and her sister were tied with a rope, dragged and beaten up by a group of people including TMC leader leader Amal Sarkar, after she protested against their bid.

After the incident, the local TMC leadership has expelled Sarkar. The order was given by TMC district chief Arpita Ghosh. “The law will take its own course. We have immediately suspended Sarkar from the party. But one should also not stop development work,” Ghosh said.

The opposition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attacked the ruling party in West Bengal over the horrific incident and has asked for immediate arrests to be made.

During the incident, the women were thrown to the ground, beaten and tied up by ropes. They were later rushed to the hospital. There condition is said to be stable.
