Microsoft co-founder and the world’s second richest man, Bill Gates, will soon be the proud owner of a futuristic super yacht, that’s powered entirely by liquid hydrogen. It is the first of its kind in the world that is powered by liquid hydrogen.

He has commissioned himself the superyacht, which is called ‘Aqua’ and is worth a whopping Rs. 4,600 crores. It is powered entirely by liquid hydrogen, which means that its only emission is water.

What does the luxury liner contain:
The luxury liner is 370 feet long and comprises five decks complete with space for 14 guests, 31 crew members, a gym, yoga studio, beauty room, massage parlour and a cascading pool on its rear deck.

Though Gates is a regular superyacht holidaymaker, he has always rented vessels for holidays. This is the first time that he has gone ahead to buy one of his own.
The plans of buying the superyacht were unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in December 2019.

How does Hydrogen fuel work:
The technology is based on the creation of electricity to power a battery and motor by mixing hydrogen and oxygen in specially treated plates. These are combined to form the fuel cell stack.

According to Unilad, the fuel cell stacks and batteries have allowed engineers to significantly shrink these components to even fit neatly inside a family car, although they are also commonly used to fuel buses, other larger vehicles and now superyachts.
