People involved in Delhi violence will not be spared: HM Amit Shah in Lok Sabha

Date:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday praised Delhi police, saying the police contained the violence within 36 hours and did not allow the riots to spread to other areas in Delhi.

He also assured that people involved in Delhi violence will not be spared, whichever religion they belong to.

“Questions have been asked about what the Delhi police was doing. Police were on the ground then, police will also probe and submit a report in coming days. I would like to praise the Delhi Police for not allowing the riots to spread to other areas,” Shah said while replying on Delhi violence in Lok Sabha.

Taking about his presence during Donald Trump’s visit to India, Shah said: “I didn’t go to The Taj Mahal. I did not go when Trump visited Rashtrapati Bhavan; didn’t go to lunch or dinner when the clashes. I was monitoring the situation with Delhi police. I had requested (NSA) Ajit Doval to go there and boost the morale of the police. I didn’t go because if I had gone there, the police would have been busy with my security.”

He also informed the House that 40 teams have been formed to arrest 1,100 people who have identified using face recognition software.

“Narendra Modi government will not spare those who have taken part in the riots. We have also registered a conspiracy case, because such riots cannot take place without underlying force,” he said:

Shah also paid tribute to all riots victims who lost their lives and extended his condolences to their grieving families. Shah, who supervises Delhi Police, also claimed that no incident of rioting took place after February 25.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs staged a walkout from the Parliament in the middle of Home Minister’s speech.

“The CCTV and video footage are being analysed. At least 700 FIRs have been registered. We have requested citizens to share videos or photos of the violence to help identify rioters which will further be checked through software. 1100 people have been identified until now and nearly 300 people had come from Uttar Pradesh,” Shah further said.

The Home Minister also assured that the Delhi Police will hold a thorough investigation into this incident and informed the House that from February 27 till today, around 700 FIRs have been registered.

In the Delhi violence that broke out between February 23 and 25, 53 people were killed and several were injured.
