COVID-19: Woman who escaped quarantine in Bengaluru now tests positive

Date:

Bengaluru: A 25-year-old woman who had returned from Italy, was put under quarantine in Bengaluru, and subsequently escaped from the quarantine, has now been tested positive for novel coronavirus.

The woman had recently returned from her honeymoon in Italy and was put under quarantine after her husband—a Google employee, showed symptoms of coronavirus. Her husband has also tested positive for the virus.

After spending a few days in the quarantine centre in Bengaluru, the woman escaped and made her way to Agra, first by taking a flight to Delhi and then a train to Agra. In the process, she is now suspected to have infected dozens of co-passengers on her travel route.

Authorities suspect that people sitting in at least two rows in the front and two rows at the back from where the woman was sitting could have been affected by the virus.

The authorities upon reaching the woman’s home in Agra faced stiff resistance from the family members who refused to cooperate with the Health Department authorities.

The woman’s father–a former Railways employee–is reported to have try to mislead the authorities by saying that the woman had left for Bangalore.

The Police had to be called before the woman was found at her parents’ home in Agra. Her entire family has now been quarantined.

Similarly, the Nagpur Police in Maharashtra have registered cases against five Coronavirus victims who have escaped from the quarantine centre and are investigating the matter.
