COVID-19: India sees multiple instances of suspected patients escaping isolation facilities

Two deaths, 114 positive cases so far, a scare that appears to be getting bigger with each passing day, but instances of suspected patients escaping from isolation facilities being reported from across India have not just underlined the utter insensitivity towards public safety but also the fact that scores of people in India still have no real clue about the havoc coronavirus can cause.

Kerala and Maharashtra have witnessed patients who were under observation for suspected coronavirus infection in the isolation ward were reported to have escaped. In Maharashtra, 11 persons fled the isolation ward in a Mumbai hospital.

Then there was the case of the wife of a Bengaluru techie who was in quarantine but later managed to evade the authorities. The woman and her husband had recently returned travel to Europe. The Google employee tested positive for coronavirus on March 12.

The wife and father of the coronavirus infected Google employee in Bengaluru have been booked by the police under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 for lying to health officials, Deccan Herald has reported.

Apart from it, a man in Kerela under observation for suspected coronavirus infection in the isolation ward of the district hospital fled, but was tracked and brought back within hours.

The man was among those who had interacted with the three-member family who returned from Italy and has tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, the total number of positive cases of coronavirus in India has reached 114 on Monday, in which 13 people have recovered and two have died, according to the Ministry of Health.
