Fact Check: PM Modi’s ‘Janta curfew’ will break the cycle of Coronavirus? Here’s the truth

Date:

After PM Modi announced Janta Curfew while addressing the nation, a message started doing rounds on social media. As per the post, the logic being Janta Curfew is that Coronvirus stay on a surface for 12 hours and the 14-hour curfew would ensure that the cycle is broken.

” THE LOGIC BEHIND JANTA CURFEW

As carona virus life at one place is 12 hrs and Janta curfew is for 14 hrs so the places or points of public areas where carona may have survived will not be touched for 14 hrs and this will break the chain.

What we get after 14 hrs will be a safer country.
That is the idea behind . Next this will be a drill if needed longer in near future … ” 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 ” the post read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be misleading.

We ran a search on Google and found a report by CNN stating that according to the recent study “the new coronavirus can last on surfaces for up to three days.”

Another research conducted by the National Institutes of Health states that, “the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is stable for several hours to days in aerosols and on surfaces.

Moreover, according to the WHO‘s website, the “virus may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment).”

This information proves that the above message in circulation is misleading.
