Karnataka: 18K health workers to proceed on strike against police brutalities

Date:

Bengaluru: Around 18,000 State Health Assistants and Supervisors across the state will proceed on a strike against alleged police brutalities from March 31.

The State Health Assistants and Supervisors Central Association President B A Kumbar said that:

“All three cops involved in the assault of Health department Supervisor Basavaraj Dollin should be sacked before March 31, failing which over 18,000 health assistants and supervisors will boycott work from Tuesday”.

Basavaraj Dollin was on his way to work from home Mahantesh Nagar in Belgavi when he was stopped by three cops.

He produced his ID and despite that he was brutally thrashed by the three cops who without regard for either his life or profession refused to hear this plea.

He suffered injuries to his back, legs, arms and is undergoing treatment at the Belgavi district hospital.

A medico-legal case has been registered.

This strike threatens to block the state’s fight against the deadly Coronavirus.

Karnataka has the third largest number of positive cases in the country.

Many have condemned this high-handedness of the cops in the state and have recalled an observation made by Justice AN Mulla of the Allahabad High Court which read:

“The police are the single largest lawless body in the country”.
