COVID-19: Govt likely to divide nation into three zones to battle virus

Date:

The Government on Saturday in a video conference with the CMs decided to divide the nation consisting of three zones.

The restrictions imposed during the 21 day lockdown period to effectively deal with the effects of COVID-19 will continue to stay for a further period of two weeks; however may differ according to the zones, reported PTI.

The nation will be divided into three zones: red, orange and green.

In the most severely affected districts which will form part of the red zone, no activity will be permitted and the extension of the lockdown with more stringent conditions will continue. Already, many States and UT’s have put in place a system to enforce this.

In the proposed orange zone, where COVID-19 cases are being tackled effectively and there is a drop in the number of cases, some activities will be permitted. Activities such as opening up of the MSME sector with adequate protection, minimum public transport and harvesting of agricultural products shall be permitted.

The green zones will see further relaxation in place, however, several precautions will be taken.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a video conference on Saturday with the CMs and there was unanimous consensus to further extend the lockdown due to the rising number of cases.

However, for now, it has been left to the state governments to decide the nature of restrictions.

The Prime Minister did mention that the attitude has shifted from “Jaan hai to Jahan hai” to Jaan Bhi and Jahaan Bhi”.

Also, many Chief Ministers during the meeting discussed the need to balance out the lockdown and the economic needs of the people, especially the vulnerable sections of the society.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy also stated that the restrictions should be confined to only the red zones.

However, a formal notification from the Government is awaited.
