COVID-19: China says virus did not originate in Wuhan lab

Date:

The Director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology gave a clean chit to his lab over accusations that the deadly COVID-19 originated or was synthesized in his lab.

Many around the world including US President Donald Trump have accused the Chinese state of a deliberate attempt to synthesize the virus and handling it in a negligent manner.

The US said that it will be investigating the ‘Wuhan Virus’ which has infected more than 2 million people globally and killed more than 100,000.

Trump said: “We’re looking at it, a lot of people are looking at it. It seems to make sense,” when asked if the US is investigating the matter.

The US Intelligence community too raised concerns in 2019 over this virus and diplomatic cables of the US State Department hinted at the same.

The P4 section of the Wuhan Institute of Virology is equipped to deal with deadly viruses.

However, Yuan Zhiming, the Director of the Lab denied the same and said that:

“We know what kind of research is going at the institute and how the institute manages viruses and samples. There is no way that virus came from us,”

He termed the US allegations as ‘misleading’ and bereft of any evidence or knowledge.
