COVID-19 wasn’t just a normal flu; US was attacked: Trump

Date:

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that Covid-19 wasn’t just a normal flue and that the US was attacked.

In a press briefing conducted at the White House, Trump said, “We had the greatest economy in the history of the world…better than China, better than any place. We were attacked. This was an attack. This wasn’t just the flu by the way.”

With more than 47,000 deaths and 852,000 cases, the US has emerged as the worst affected nation in this battle against the virus.

Trump tried to infuse an element of positivity and defended his move to provide a large fiscal stimulus of more than USD 3 trillion.

“We built it in the last three years and then one day, they came and they said that you have to close it. Now, we are going to open it again and we’re going to be just as strong or stronger but you have to spend money to get it back open”, he said.

He also spoke about how the fiscal stimulus has helped the airline industry and numerous other companies that were on the verge of collapse.

The President also said that while the cases are increasing day by day, many states have shown an improvement. He cited the examples of Boston and Chicago and said that Detroit too has flattened the curve.

Calling for a united front, he said that the states are being provided all the support to enhance their testing facilities.

The President also signed an executive order to stop immigration for a period of 60 days. This will affect only that category of individuals who are applying for permanent residency or green cards.

Meanwhile, the state of Missouri has sued the People’s Republic of China for its ineptitude and negligence in dealing with the outbreak of the virus that has brought the US and other parts of the world to a grinding halt.
