COVID-19: Top 10 developments in India this Friday

With 1,752 new positive COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, India recorded its highest single-day spike in cases on Friday, taking the country’s tally to 23,452.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this Friday:

1. According to the latest figures released by the Health Ministry on Friday evening, 17,915 cases are active and 4,813 persons have been cured so far. The death toll stood at 723.

2. India’s recovery rate is now at 20.57%, said Health Ministry in its daily media briefing on COVID-19.

3. The doubling rate of coronavirus cases now stands at 10 days.

4. Tamil Nadu has declared complete lockdown in five cities including Chennai. From 6 am on April 26 to 9 pm on April 29 in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. While in Salem and Tiruppur corporations, from 6 am on April 26 to 9 pm on April 28.

5. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityananth said that the government will bring back labourers stranded in other states because of the coronavirus-forced lockdown.

9. No new COVID-19 positive case reported in Chandigarh today. The number of COVID-19 cases stands at 27 in the Tricity, including 15 cured patients. No death has been reported in the Union Territory due to the infection. 638 samples have been tested so far: Health Department, Chandigarh Administration

10. While interacting with gram panchayat members via video conference today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “To become self-reliant and self-sufficient is the biggest lesson learnt from Corona pandemic. ‘Do gaj doori’ is rural India’s Mantra to fight COVID-19.”
