He is considered to be an expert on economic diplomacy and has actively pursued India’s economic interests in the ASEAN region when he headed the Indian Mission to ASEAN and East Asia Summit as the Ambassador. In fact, he was the first officer to be appointed as the Ambassador to the newly created Mission in 2014.

He has previously served as the Indian envoy to Iraq too.

Recently, the ties between India and Brazil have been invigorated with the high-level visits of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro to Delhi when he was the chief guest of the Republic Day parade in 2020 and the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Brazil in 2019 for the BRICS summit.

The Ambassador will have to deal with issues related to certain trade disputes between the two countries which can prove to be a major irritant.

The two nations otherwise are promoting strategic and energy ties.
