COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Thursday

India’s COVID-19 tally has touched 52,952, including 1,783 deaths on Thursday. While there are 35,902 active cases at present, as many as 15,266 patients have recovered so far.

Here are the top 10 development this Thursday:

1. Karnataka government on Thursday decided to restart train services for migrant labourers. The state government has written to nodal officers of various states seeking their consent to operate trains to their states from May 8 to 15.

2. Kerala recorded no new positive cases on Thursday. Also, five more persons—three from Kannur and two from neighbouring Kasaragod—have recovered, bringing the tally of active cases in the state to 25.

3. The Indian Railways said it has operated 163 Shramik Special trains since May 1 and ferried home over 1.60 lakh migrants stranded in various parts of the country due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

4. India begins phased repatriation of its citizens stranded abroad from Thursday. nearly 15,000 Indians to be brought home in the first phase

5. An Air India Express flight with 177 Indians on board takes off from Dubai International Airport in United Arab Emirates for Kozhikode in Kerala.

6. Two personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) have succumbed to COVID-19 infection. The force has recorded over 150 infections with around 30 cases in Tripura and rest all in Delhi.

7. Over 3,400 migrant workers arrived in Uttar Pradesh from different parts of the country by Shramik special trains today, officials said.

8. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday condoled the death of a Delhi Police constable due to coronavirus and said his family will be provided with an ex-gratia of Rs one crore.

9. We have decided that migrant labours who want to go to their native places need not procure medical certificates from now onward. Only thermal checking will be done to avoid big queues outside doctors’ clinics: Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra Health Minister

10. 388 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Gujarat. Total positive cases stand at 7,013, including 1709 cured/discharged and 425 deaths: State Health Department
