The World Health Organization has reported that across Europe, there is an increase in the number of domestic violence cases, due to the lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19.
WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge said that countries “are reporting up to 60% increase in emergency calls by women subjected to violence by their intimate partners”.

Billions of people around the world, especially Women and Children are vulnerable.
The UN Agency has also estimated that there will be 31 million cases around the world if the lockdown continues beyond six months.
The National Commission for Women in India has also reported a rise in number of cases. They said that they had received 58 complainants till April 30.
India has enacted the Domestic Violence (Prohibition) Act to deal with these cases. However, lack of awareness and other issues continue to affect its effective implementation.
